A (face) Punch For The Newest Grandma

It has been quite sometime since our last little discussion of drinks (who am I kidding, no one is reading this). I have been busy the past weeks working my way to the two jobs I coveted most and spending time with my new nephew. Hardly excuses, I know. So let’s get back to it.
As I said, a couple of weeks ago my nephew was born. One week later to the day, my mother turned, well, old, and while I could never top the gift that my sister and brother-in-law gave her, I figured I could give everyone the gift of sedation by making her a giant jug of a libation.
Grandma Lynn’s Face Punch
1 750 ml bottle of Pinot Grigio
2 cups of American Brandy (white)
1 bottle of champagne (cheap, dry)
1 1/2 cups of simple syrup
1 1/2 cups of orange juice
1 cup of peach puree
5 white peaches
4 apples (2 green, 2 pink lady)
2 bunches of green grapes (15-20 grapes)
3 lemons
In essence, you are going to throw all of this in a bowl or pitcher and let that ish chill. It’s all prep otherwise:
Slice the apples up and the remaining 2 1/2 lemons. Do the lemons as wheels.
Combine equal parts sugar and hot water to make the simple syrup, stir till dissolved, cool it down
In a blender for the puree; combine every part of the peaches except the core, the juice of 1/2 of one of the lemons and 4 ice cubes. Press the ‘P’ button.
In bowl/pitcher for serving juice about half of the grapes.
Combine the wine, brandy, puree, syrup, fruit and juices with the grape juice. Stir it up and toss it in the fridge and let it sit for a hot minute. Then serve it up to your friends or leave it for your mother on her birthday. The choice is yours.
When coming up with this I used a base recipe I had in my notebook from…I don’t even know when. Maybe an event I worked, an article or book I read, who knows. But sounded sweet after a read through–a plus considering my mother’s tastebuds–and it allowed an opportunity for a white-ish punch as well with only a bit of deviation.
My mother takes a glass of white with dinner and if you don’t add ice to the punch and keep it refrigerated it’s good for a couple of days, so you know, serve it over ice with a top-off of that cheap-ass bubbly ya got and you can enjoy it for half the week if you make it for just yourself. Either way it’s a delicious, refreshing drink that will make certain that no one gets punched in the face…maybe.
